The week before
- Send each family a time slot, not just the date. Keep 10 minutes per child and a 5-minute gap every hour.
- Print the marks of the last two tests and the attendance for the term for every student.
- Note one thing each child does well. Write it down; it is easy to forget with 35 families.
- Mark the 4 or 5 students you need longer with. Give them the last slots of the day.
- Ask subject teachers for one line on any child they are worried about.
For each family (10 minutes)
- Start with the thing the child does well. (1 min)
- Show the marks and attendance. Let the parent read them. (2 min)
- One area to work on, with an example from class or a notebook. (3 min)
- Ask the parent: what do you see at home? Listen. (2 min)
- Agree on one thing the parent will do and one thing you will do. Write both down. (2 min)
After the PTM
- List the families who did not come. Call them in the same week.
- Send each family the one thing you agreed on, in writing.
- Check the two or three serious cases again after four weeks.
